Biography

Carlos Mendoza | Fine Art photographer

I was born in Rome, Italy, but I have Mexican origins. I studied art at school, and I love painting. In fact, I paint since I was 15.

Moreover, I love photography too. For me, the preparation of a photo is like that of a work of art or a painting. In my opinion, every element and detail must have a meaning, and these elements, connected to scenography and pose, must tell a story and have secret meanings, just like the masterpieces of Italian Renaissence.

In my opinion, photography is like a form of painting, where lights, chiaro-scuro, surfaces, weaves of fabric remind to the masterpieces of Italian Reinaissance. Moreover, the titles of the pictures, connected with the scene’s objects, create the key-word of the photo, just like the iconology of XV century.

But, even if the iconography belongs to Italian Renaissance, the settings, the objects, and the mood derive from Surrealism, mixed by my own imagination and subconscious. . In my inner vision, photography is a way to create a personal reality, where stories and characters of my fantasy become real.

To do that, I use to take a pictures to models and with the help of make up, artistic implant/installations and the scenography, I try to change their antropomorphic aspects.

Finally, I realize and made by myself every scene’s object. The setting of these object in the space, it is the result of joint research of Martina Cammerata, iconologist and expert of history of art, and me. The scenography is a very important component of my pictures, to explain the simbolism and the message. Her help and work give a special allure to the pictures. And so, it’s more than a simple scenography.
